Andersonville, Georgia is where the National Park Service’s Andersonville National Historic Site is located. The site was home to Camp Sumter, the Confederacy’s largest military prison during the War Between the States. The historic site now holds a National Cemetery and the National Prisoner of War (POW) Museum.
Every year on the first weekend of October the Andersonville Guild puts on the event and hosts Civil War re-enactors from all over the Southeast who put on a mock battle. This technically isn’t a true re-enactment as no battle ever occurred in Andersonville for them to re-enact. As a result, it is a closely guarded secret each year as to who will win the battle – the Rebs or the Yanks!
