I made this video to test out my new Canon 7D’s video capabilities. The video was shot with a Lensbaby Muse with plastic optics which gives it the hazy look and the colorful lens flares. It was filmed at 60 frames per second in 720pHD, meaning I could achieve a very smooth slow motion effect.

The idea for the story came from a drawing of Mike Lowery’s that I saw on his blog a while back. The song “Strung Finger of an Old Dear” by Macon, GA’s own Oh Dorian seemed to be a perfect match to the dreamy footage playing in slow-mo.

Several weeks ago I was asked to attend the Medical Center of Central Georgia’s general surgery department weekly meeting to get some candid photos of the residents (one of whom I just so happen to be married to). The following day I went to their research labs to get some more photos of their lab team working (I covered their rat research this summer).

The MCCG general surgery residency website was recently updated with some of the images I took for them. Below are higher resolution versions of those images as well as a few more.

It wasn’t until we visited the Fair yesterday that we saw exactly how well we had done! “Team Haun” racked up a total of 20 awards!

Heidi submitted 4 photographs and received 3 ribbons – a 3rd place, and two 4th places. I submitted 18 photos and received 16 ribbons in total (7 first place, 3 second place, 3 third place, 2 fourth place, and an Award of Excellence in Advance Color photography). I also won the “Sweepstakes” in the Advanced category since I placed the most ribbons overall.

This is my first “big” photo competition and I’m extremely honored to have won so many prizes. Just like athletes and Oscar winners dedicate their awards to someone special,
I am dedicating my awards in memory of my late grandfather John “Peepaw” Pate. When I was in college he inspired me to pick up photography and he often submitted his images to contests in Fairs and local competitions (placing several times as well!). It is also because of him that I sought out the Middle Georgia Camera Club when we moved to Macon last year. That group has also helped my photography talents to grow over the past year.

Below you can see our winning photographs. If you’d like to purchase a matted print of any of these images write me using the Contact form (after all, Christmas is coming up soon!)
