Macon Concert Video Promos

This week is a big one for the Macon, Georgia music scene. We’ve got three nights in a row of shows with stellar lineups presented by TheBlueIndian.com.

That’s great news, but the problem is promoting three back-to-back shows. To help out, I created a series of 30-45 second promos featuring music by different musicians performing at the shows.

PEEL Portraits

Back in December, I went up to Waleska, Georgia to collaborate on a creative project with Jym Davis. I can’t talk about the project just yet (it’s top secret) but I can tell you about PEEL, a by-product of our late night of filming at Reinhardt University.

While Jym was working on what became the 10-minute short film entitled PEEL and I took the portraits below of a few of the actors involved. You can watch an abbreviated version of PEEL on YouTube. The first few opening shots are mine, but the rest of the mind-boggling sequence is Jym’s (including the great soundtrack).

Fog Experiments with Jym Davis

Fellow artist Jym Davis is always a blast to collaborate with. Usually when we get together we have no agenda and just experiment with some vague ideas. Back in July he came down to Macon for a visit and brought his fog machine. We took it out into the woods behind my house with a took some photos and video of the smoke as it floated around in the dark. Jym just so happened to have some brilliant red fabric and created the quite eerie, shrouded character.

Filming “Get Low”

Yesterday, my son Trey and I met up with Jym Davis at Pickett’s Mill Battlefied Historic Site to be extras in a movie. The film is called “Get Low” and stars Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, Sissy Spacek, Lucas Black, and Bill Cobbs. That’s two Oscar winners and a nominee right there! Plus the director Aaron Schneider is an Oscar winner as well and the screenplay was co-written by Chris Provenzano who has written for the TV show Mad Men.

The movie is a dark comedy based on the true story of a man who staged his own funeral so that he could attend it. You can read more about my experiences as an extra on my family blog. Below are some of my favorite images from the day.

New Homepage for JymDavisArt.com

Fellow artist and good friend Jym Davis has just revamped his website and put up a new homepage I created for him. The page is a Flash movie that fills the browser window and features simple navigation over blurry, pixelated video loops. Looks pretty impressive when you maximize your browser window. Last summer on my annual camping trip (2006, 2007) with Jerry Span, Jym Davis, and Kenny Jensen we filmed a lot of random footage in the Smokies. Jym took that footage and edited together a great short film using the footage and a soundtrack he mixed himself. The film has been submitted to a film festival in San Francisco and we are planning on expounding on the film’s vague themes this summer and filming a longer version.

I recently ran across this old video from 2003 that I created with Jym Davis and Kenny Jensen. All the footage was shot by Jym and Kenny and I edited it to a demo version of Adam’s song. We used this video with several others to project at the band’s live shows while they played the song. Some of the footage is from Jym’s In Flux video that Kenny and I worked on post-production effects for.

From Pixelvision to Old, Dirty Film

I just finished some post-production work on a music video Jym Davis is doing for a Georgia based bluegrass band called “Mullinix and Vickery“. Jym uses a unique technique that mixes high quality miniDV footage with footage from an antique Fisher Price PXL-2000 camera (known as pixelvision) which records video onto audio cassettes. Jym asked me to do some effects work and add another layer to the footage giving it an “old dirty film” look.
