World Cup Kick-Off Concert: Fans

I’m here in South Africa working but I got a chance to get out and have some fun at the World Cup Kick-off Celebration Concert. The 3-hour concert was televised live internationally and featured big name acts like Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, Alicia Keys, and John Legend. I wasn’t as thrilled about those stars as I was about the lesser known African musicians that were performing (several of which were on my last mixtape).

The concert at Orlando Stadium was attended by nearly 30,000 fans from all over the world. It was one of those wonderful occasions where people of all races, nationalities, religions, and languages come together in unity and peace. I was amazed at how well everyone behaved (despite the large quantities of alcohol being consumed) and the general excitement in the air was contagious.

Mulberry St. Arts Festival

This was a first for me – I rented a space at Macon’s Arts & Crafts Festival, setup a tent, and displayed and sold prints of my work. My friend & pro photog Michael Williams shared the space with me and helped run the booth. We were both rookies at selling art in the festival circuit but at the end of the weekend we had both made a decent profit. It was a success!

Saturday’s weather was incredible – sunny and temps in the 70s. Sunday had a forcast for thunderstorms and we were concerned that our tent wouldn’t hold up. So we took all our art work home for the night and wrapped our tent up in tarps. We had to use duct tape to hold the tarps in place so our tent looked pretty sad.

Despite our not-so-fancy tent setup, we ended up winning an award from the Middle Georgia Art Association! It just goes to show that they were truly judging the merits of the art, not the way we were displaying it.

On Sunday, my wife was working so I had to bring my 3-year-old with me to the booth. I didn’t expect him to last long and Michael was ready to cover for me. However, he behaved surprisingly well and spent over 7 hours there with me! He even helped to make a few sales.

Photographing in Peru

I’ll be in Peru for the next couple weeks with a medical team. I’m traveling with them over the Andes to the jungle to take photos of the medical work they are doing. The second half of the trip will be back on the coast.
